Moving from Monterey Park to somewhere like Northridge or Valley Glen is a downgrade, IMO. You might be a bit tired of MP/SGV, but it's a great place to live overall.

If you want to be close to WeHo and Malibu, you might as well live on the correct side of the Santa Monica Mountains and find a place on the Westside or in Mid City for their proximity to those two areas.

I agree with genjy, another option is to stay in Monterray Park and enjoy the increasing property values. But if you must move, i recommend Culver City. Expo line to Santa Monica opens this May!

The OP is obviously renting, why would he care about property values?

I LOVE Century City & would love to live there but, after seeing that nice(r) studio apts in NoHo, Toluca Lake & Studio City go for 2 grand & upwards, Im afraid to even look at Century City studio apts. Haha. Its unbelievable they fetch prices like that.

That being said, of the places you listed, Valley Village is the probably the most ideal. Although Northridge is probably the safest of the four places you mentioned, Valley Village is still pretty safe and is close to the action on Ventura Blvd. while right next to the 101 and 170, which makes it easy to get to other parts of the Valley or drop into downtown or Hollywood.

Valley Glen and Lake Balboa are closer to Van Nuys, which is relatively high crime.
Ive seen some nice places in both Northridge & VV. Ill make the trek out there to go look at them in person to get a better feel of the area.

I think Valley Village would be a better choice. Northridge is cool too but it's further from nightlife and further from WeHo area too.
It just seems like there are a lot more independent restaraunts and bars and stuff in or very close to VV...while in Northridge it's more the chains. If you want to go out for a decent drink or beer you are limited more to like Yardhouse and stuff. Not to slam Yardhouse , I like the place...but I think you know what I mean.

After much hunting, I may just go to West Hollywood. MUCH cheaper. Ive found 2 different nice places that are both at the foot of the Hollywood Hills for right around $1600. I was pretty shocked to be honest.

You found West Hollywood to be much cheaper than your current place in SGV or the parts of the SFV you were considering?
