If I have a budget of any amount, what would be the safest area in Downtown Los Angeles to live. I understand some areas are not that great. Like with any city. If I can just find the nicer neighborhoods all will be well.

At this point I have no idea where is good and where is bad. I am renting using Airbnb and will not be able to check out the area before I arrive. I am going to pick a place later tonight.

This forum has helped me find a great location for my last three places. Hopefully it can work for a fourth

South Park; Arts District; Little Tokyo; Bunker Hill; Financial District would be the safest.

Around the Financial District is the safest. I'd put Arts District in 2nd place.

Definitely the Financial District, lots of pedestrian activity during the day and night. If budget isn't a concern then I'd recommend either the Pegasus building (6th/Flower), the 8th/Hope building, or the 8th/Grand (above Whole Foods) building. These are 3 large apartment buildings in lively parts of Downtown, very safe.

Now that doesn't mean that you won't see the occasional homeless person walking around, but they are pretty sparse and harmless in that part of town.

Downtown seems pretty safe in general to me. Even when your close to skid row you still see a bunch of artsy fartsy wannabe's and tourists walking around. If your a female you might want to look into the areas further west, but if your a male you should fine anywhere downtown. It's not like you have to deal with gang violence, mostly just schizophrenic drunks and crack heads who puke on the streets.

They have really cleaned up Downtown, even South Central LA is vastly better than it was just a few decades back.

South Park would be my choice. The Financial District and Little Tokyo are also clean and relatively safe. The Arts District and Spring Street are still a little gritty (but tons of bars and eateries).

Spring St. is more gritty than the arts district. W/ gritty meaning the amount of homeless involved. Wish the Feds would realize how bad homeless is on the entire Westcoast from Seattle to San Diego.

I think you got a lot of good suggestions OP...where are you moving from? Are you specifically fleeing an area with a lot of bugs?

You will find So.Calif. pleasantly bug free...compared to most other places.

Are you saying that modern day Los Angeles has changed for the better? Because it seems like it is still stereotyped heavily based on old g-funk songs created by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and Warren G back in the early 1990's.
