I never got that true multiracial vibe in LA county that I did in the bay area.

To me LA seems more 'balkanized' with each race having their own areas they live and congregate in. I'm not saying everyone is like that but that is my general impression, having lived for many years in both areas of California.

Doesn't help matters that gangs have been divided along racial lines in prison, and those gang members bring that racism back to the Southern California streets in bitter gang wars.

It does seem like the LA metro is getting more divided each year.

Really? I have always heard the Bay Area was more "racist" than LA.

Anyway, I'm Black and just moved to LA a few months ago. I haven't encountered any issues except for at my part time job I had in Torrance. I was delivering pizza and looking at the apartment numbers. The numberering was really weird so I had to turn around and go to the other side of the building. I can feel someone stepping out of their apt staring at me. After a few steps I turn around and see this older white guy with his hands in his pocket looking right at me. When I turned around he jumped a little. I then straight uo ask him "hey man, you know where apartment 209 is?" He tells me, I say "thanks brother" and he goes inside.

Now maybe he was gonna help me anyway, but I've had enough people look at me like I'm some thug to know when it's happening. When I start actually talking or they see the car I get in, then they lighten up.

I'm lucky enough to work in a professional setting now with 14 people. Four of them are Black, including myself, so it's nice to see. I've seen a few of "us" around our building too.

Raw numbers are meaningless if you don't compare it to state populations. Have you not taken statistics 101?

State hate crime laws can vary widely. Some are specific only to race and gender, while many states exclude sexual orientation from hate crime protection.

California's hate crime law is pretty expansive and has been in place for years. Therefore, the legal/law enforcement infrastructure for reporting such crimes is deep and wide in California.

Georgia does not even have a hate crime law. So yes, the actual "reporting" of hate crimes is far less in Georgia.

And these tables are meaningless in comparison of how Black people are treated since the vast majority of victims are targeted because of sexual preference issues
