Ok , since you asked.

Here are 172 business just in L.A county alone on the market where the greedy business owners profit under $50,000 per year.

Los Angeles County, CA Businesses For Sale - BizBuySell.com

Now you have 172 pieces of evidence. Number will obviously be a lot higher if you search all of CA.

Your comment that this law will only affect "a few" or "a handful" of business is not correct. Also these are just businesses on the market on this site. There are thousands and thousands of businesses like this in L.A

I guess it's no biggie if they close up shop though right?

You don't seem to have any clue what "evidence" means. If your assertion had been "There are business that make less than $50,000 a year" then you would have proven that. But that wasn't your assertion. You are asserting that raising the minimum wage to $15 over the next 6 years will cause those businesses to close. And that's unfalisfiable BS that you have no proof of and cannot have proof of because it's baseless speculation. Many small businesses have no employees aside from the owner. Many more have just 1 or 2 employees, so an increase of 50% over the course of 6 years is not an unbearable burden.

So you think it will be good for business then?...

What is your speculation? That these businesses with thrive with a 50% labor increase??

Yes. Increasing minimum wage has always lead to increased consumer spending and more business for, you guessed it, local businesses. I'm sorry that it doesn't line up with your fear mongering, but reality doesn't care what you think.

We are talking about unprecedented increases in minimum wage.

Oh and it's not just burger joints that will be affected...

Take a look at this article from today...and it's not from Fox News..it's from the L.A Times

California minimum wage hike hits L.A. apparel industry: 'The exodus has begun' - LA Times

The Exodus has begun.

I guess your response will be "Who cares...who needs apparel jobs in L.A?.. no biggie"

I guess you could just go down the line of industries and keep on saying that.

It's not unprecedented in any way except for how slow it's being implemented, and any industry/business that's leaving before the increased wage even goes into effect wasn't on firm footing to begin with. The fashion industry, especially high-end low-style, has been struggling for years already.
Wages will always go up as long as the economy is growing and the cost of living is increasing. Your entire argument is unrealistic and, quite frankly, completely stupid. To keep wages stagnant in the face of ever-increasing costs just shows how disconnected from reality you are. What do you think happens to the people whose minimum wage job/s can't support them? They just pull the money they need out of thin air? No, they go into debt and/or get government assistance. And guess what people with no money can't do? BUY THINGS! What happens to small businesses when no one can buy their products and services? They go out of business!

An increase is long overdue but you seem to have a one sided view of the issue - all benefits, no problems just like the politicians want so they get the impoverished vote. Sure if you make more money and you are below the poverty line you will likely spend more money but that is only a benefit if you have and keep your job.
  • Restaurant prices will increase (some already have) so you may make more but you will spend more if you eat out - probably even at McDonald's. This will probably contribute to inflation in CA.
  • There will be less work, some businesses will move out and the work there is will be harder (in order to raise productivity).
  • Use of illegal labor (which is plentiful in CA) will increase, eliminating more potential jobs
  • Tax revenue and SS/Medicad collections will go up - good for the state.

I support the increase but you can't magically raise up everyone who makes < 30K/yr without real costs. Lots of factors contribute to the CA state GDP so it will be interesting to see how this affects the very people it aims to help - the low paid worker.

Try to imagine people making less than $15 an hour in 2022. How do you live? Prices are only going to go up. MordinSolus' above comment is spot on.

Well that's not how inflation works, and as history proves increasing minimum wage leads to MORE jobs, not fewer. Some businesses will go under, but more will open and more will thrive.

Vacanegro, good point about people seeing this issue from a one sided point of view. It seems there are a lot of people that get upset when they are proven wrong and then throw insults.

I posted about an LA Times article about how the min wage hike is bad for the apparel business.
It mentions a lady that just lost her job with American Apparel. She was making $500 a week, so she wasn't rich..but she is now making ZERO.
