It may not be "hard" for you to find jobs, but it may take a while. Southern California is crowded, expensive, and competitive. I'm not sure if many areas at all are considered "affordable," except perhaps a few hours inland, which is probably very different than where you'd like to be. LA is the 7th most expensive rental market. San Diego is 11th. There is also enough sprawl and traffic that you likely won't know where to live until you know where you'll be working.

I made the move from the Midwest several years ago (was self-employed at the time), so I definitely understand the pull of CA, but the shine has started to wear off because of the cost of living (and I have no kids to think about). Just make sure you're prepared if you do move...don't jump head-first.

So most of you dont recommend the move (understandable) but we believe we can make it work and we're expecting to bring in better combined incomes when we move and have already planned to have jobs lined up. We definitely are not making an impulse move, and thinking through everything very carefully! I work from home, so I guess that eliminates a few things we would need to spend money on. I have considered the inland areas. but thank you all for your input!
