Yikes, you didn't mention that the dog was a pitbull...good luck!! Not that I have anything against them, but realistically it will be very hard to find places that will accept one. Forget the beach, your dog should be the focus of your search.

East Hollywood is kind of hit and miss. That particular area I would personally...hesitate...

East Hollywood is going to be a lot more run down than Glendale, Pasadena, Burbank. Big homeless issue in the area just like in other parts of L.A
There is a big difference in services between city of L.A and the smaller cities you mention like Glendale,Pasadena and Burbank which are part of L.A county but have their own city services like police, etc.

I'd recommend burbank myself as it borders glendale, but I think is nicer overall. Glendale is nice and safe too.
Pasadena could also be a good choice. You'll definitely be even further from the beach there though.

The dog will be a problem in Burbank, Glendale or Pasadena or most nicer neighborhoods due to breed restrictions at most apartment buildings and most private owners that are renting won't accept the dog. Unfortunately having a pit bull on a budget will restrict you to less desirable neighborhoods. The upside is at least you already have a pit bull for protection.

Our pit bull is the sweetest dog and would lick a stranger to death. It just doesn't make sense that so many places don't allow pit bulls. There are so many pit bulls in the Los Angeles area and not everyone would own their own home.

Suggest you buy a pet liability policy to make your case more appealing to a potential landlord.

Maybe sharing a house with other pet owners might be a good option or renting out a guest house where the dog could have a yard to play in

There are sweet ones but they have a bad reputation because whenever you read a story about someone getting killed by a dog 9 times out of 10 it's a pit bull. Most landlords don't want to take the chance of being liable if something happens on their property. I think they call it vicious breeds and its not just pit bulls that exclude you from many rentals

Totally agree. My pitbull is a lover...so is my parents pitbull. Ours would make for terrible guard dogs but that's a discussion for another thread..

Does anyone have any info on Altadena? We have found a pit bull friendly building for a great price but we know nothing about the area.

The building is around the E Altadena/Lake Ave intersection.
