21 year old female interning from mid June to end of August this summer in Santa Clarita. Hopefully going to be able to find a room to rent that I can share with my boyfriend to keep costs low. I'm hoping to find an area of LA that isn't too far of a commute, but is still lively, hopefully walkable, and has young professionals like me. I have a few ideas.. but I'm just curious what your opinions would be. Basically, I'm willing to commute as long as the area makes it worth it! Thanks in advance.

That is kind of a tough one because Santa Clarita is "in the sticks" or pretty far out there. A nice area but yeah boring and suburban.

Probably the closest areas to consider would be Studio City, Sherman Oaks, Burbank or North Hollywood. If you are willing to drive further then perhaps West Hollywood or Hollywood.

Studio City and Sherman Oaks would be my top options. A prime part of NoHo is an option as well.

What's out there where one can intern? Are these major companies out that way? I'd assume if any they'd be in Valencia.

FYI, Valencia is an area within the city of Santa Clarita.

To OP, what is your commute tolerance and your housing budget? Since you'll only be here for 2.5 months, I'd be more concerned with a short commute and being able to get to the office on time rather than living somewhere cool that is nearly an hour away. you can save your adventuring for the weekends.

Ah I see my mistake. When I see the advertisements on Valencia out here in LA I assumed it was a town nearby. Sorry but I do hear that's where the businesses are. Is that true?

Yes, it's considered the Valencia part of Santa Clarita. I'll be interning for Princess Cruises near the "Westfield Valencia Town Center."

Yes, I have considered that as well. I would ideally like to stay around 30 minutes and would only commute longer if I found a really great place. Hoping to spend a max. of $1200 for a room.

I would like to be close enough from LA to uber every once a while without paying an extraordinary amount. Not deal breaker though.

Exactly. I've been leaning towards Studio City or Sherman Oaks near Ventura Blvd so it would be easy to walk to a few places. I'm glad everyones answers so far have backed up my thoughts
