I'm currently visiting Austin, Texas from CA and am amazed how expensive housing is. Thought people were leaving CA for Texas because it was cheaper.

Condo in Agoura Hills, and you'd have money left over. It's 38.5 miles to Pasadena. Not walkable, though.

Absolutely not.

Dallas is expensive as well.

TX is crazy.

At some point CA started to look reasonable to me

Your best bet would probably be Glendora. You can find a few modest homes under $500K and the public schools are good. Your drive will be about 1 hour each way.

If you go further east, you're looking at a more than one hour commute. San Dimas and La Verne are also good, quaint areas to raise a family where you can find a few homes under $500K. But your commute will probably be 1 hour 15-20 minutes each way.

It deoends on where you are. I agree that the core areas of Houston, Dallas, and Austin aren't exactly cheal. You just get a lot more for what you pay for and will be in a newer building too.

Look at North Torrance or Gardena, I'd stay by the beach in South Bay.

No way in hell hot ass nasty Texas is comparable to LA in terms of housing costs, that's completely laughable... I'm not even going to bother looking that up. LOL.

He works in Pasadena. Around an hour and a half commute from North Torrance to Pasadena leaving at say 7am.

Gardena is nice, but has terrible public schools.

I'm guessing his commute would be absolute hell. Getting past the 405 is such a pain.

By contrast, La Verne is 23 miles from Pasadena...and perhaps even closer depending on where in pasadena

Go with Upland or Rancho if Upland is too pricey
