I just came back form Portland, Boise, and few other places. I am sick to my stomach because i con't find a decent apartment in LA. I just want to live in a safe area where I won't be afraid to leave my dog at home. Where my wife won't be afraid to walk the dog in the evening. Where I won't have to spend 50% of my income on rent. And it's not happening. I can't effing find anything and I don't know what to do. I want to start living "frugal" and save as much as I can for things I have planned, but I can't even find a freaking apartment that's not going to cost me an arm and a leg. While walking through Boise, I was CLing and saw 4 bedroom homes, huge, beautiful homes for $1400 a month. And I am paying $2150 for a 2 bedroom in ****ing Sherman Oaks. I don't think this is sustainable. I am ready to move to a smaller town or another country. I can't deal with this anymore. I am feeling very hopeless and depressed about this.....

I make more than you, pretty sure.. And I am from here. If you actually read my post, you would know what I am talking about. I am from here and I live in Sherman Oaks and I grew up here and I want to continue living here. I make really good money and with this kind of money should be able to live like a king anywhere, but in LA, I am barely scraping by

So, why are you in LA? The average person now spends over 50% of their income on rent in LA so this shouldn't be a surprise

Because this is my home and because there are so many ****ing idiots who pay 2400$ for a Studio apartment are causing all these problems. There is not a huge shortage of apartments. There should be a law about rent increases. Call me socialist, call me whatever you want, but this is not sustainable. I make 6 figures. I should be able to at least rent a decent apartment in a decent area.

People have been leaving California for at least 25 years for these same reasons.

If there is no shortage of apartments you shouldn't have a problem

Sorry for your predicament. Due to immigration, our housing costs are extremely high, and there's nothing our politicians want to do to remedy the situation. It's very frustrating, and the situation is getting worse. Building more housing isn't the solution, because without stopping immigration, the best we can hope for is not getting deeper in the hole, rather than getting out of it altogether.

I agree. Immigration needs to stop. Call me racist all you want, but SFV has been lost to you know who. I grew up in Encino, Tarzana, Reseda areas. Reseda is the capital of crime now. It used to be more or less safe. Also, building more will help
