Didn't know they were ever challenged to do so. Why would they have to?

You say this as if it would be a bad thing.

But then I couldn't watch Keeping up with the Kardashians. What kind of monster are you to tell me that's bad.

You know that the US doesn't have an official language right?

I have no problem with people not knowing how to speak English, that burden is on them. But I can assure you if they want to move up in society (and most do - otherwise they would not be making dangerous trips /w coyotes across the border) they or their children will learn English.

In the end economics comes down to choices.

Do I want to pay $100 for a cleaning lady that doesn't speak English and is probably illegal?
or: Do I want to pay $200 for a service where all the employees speak English and are bonded and insured?
Do I want to go to the local Mexican taco stand and order in Spanish and get awesome tacos?
or: Do I want to go to Taco Bell and order in English and get diarrhea?

etc.

Yes, I am well aware of that. But many of our states do. And notice I said move to OTHER COUNTRIES THAT HAVE OFFICIAL LANGUAGES.

I'm not, but English language dominance doesn't mean the exclusion of other languages, which you seem to advocate. I'm against mindless xenophobia and ethnocentrism intruding into other peoples' lives other than your own. And there are laws that allow for use of minority languages when applicable.

Don't like other people speaking Spanish in public? None of your business.

There you go again. I've NEVER said I don't like people speaking Spanish in public. I don't care about other people's private conversations. You like to throw around the words xenophobia and ethnocentrism you can't even see how you strident you are in your own bias against anything related to the English-language, and your promotion of anything and everything non-English-related. By throwing around these words you really do a disservice to people who have been real victims of xenophobia and ethnocentrism. I don't think you know what real hatred or bigotry is. It's certainly not the OP's questioning time and attention to one particular language when people must know English to vote, nor is it wanting more UNITY and COMMUNICATION among people which DOESN'T happen when they don't share at least one common language.

Don't like English being the dominant language? None of your business.

You don't have much reading comprehension and I think you're just talking past me.

I have stated that I don't have a problem with English being a dominant language. It already is. Just because I support the use of other languages when appropriate doesn't mean I'm anti-English. Puh-leez. Are you really that binary in your thinking?

So why do you feel threatened when government officials do outreach in Spanish or other languages, if English is dominant, and it already is?

Actually, xenophobia and ethnocentrism are perfectly apt descriptions when folks get hot and bothered about Spanish being spoken in this country and want to restrict it when it is perfectly legal and If the shoe fits, wear it. If it doesn't apply to you, there are plenty of posters who get a meltdown over it, and you'd know who they are.

Oh right Native Americans only had bare feet and loincloths, forget the widely know facts that there were moccasins and more elaborate forms of dress, and technological diffusion totally wouldn't have happened because of reasons

There were wheels found as pre-columbian artifacts in the Americas, they weren't used as widely as Afro-Eurasia because there weren't really beasts of burden out here.
