Maybe. The problem is that 2% increase would remain in place even if the issues are eventually resolved. Then a few years later, SM will again look to raise the tax rate in response to other issues. This happens everywhere and is usually disguised by a thin veil stating "it's only temporary".

do you mean homeless by rif raf?? Santa Monica is too liberal to ever do anything about the homeless.. it's been a huge problem since the 70's. They'd probably take some of that money and build huge homeless shelters so even more will go there.

I mean, in general, the degenerates who hang around the area and make normal people feel uncomfortable. That includes homeless people as well as people who are ostensibly gang members and don't look like they're from the immediate area.

Is there any reason bicyclists can't stop at every stop sign, and wait their turn, like the law requires, and like cars normally do?

Is there any reason bicyclists can't ride in tandem and stay in the bike lanes like the law requires?

Is there any reason bicyclists can't walk their bicycles on sidewalks and not ride on sidewalks, as the law requires?

Is there any reason bicyclists can't share the road (which means to obey the laws) as they insist that cars do?

Based on what I see, each bicyclist breaks the law dozens, if not hundreds, of times every day. Zipping through every stop sign, riding on sidewalks, riding outside of bike lanes, passive-aggressively blocking cars in the middle of the street, instead of staying to the side.

No, there are no good reasons for this. Bicyclists can enjoy their hobby while obeying traffic laws -- but that's no fun! It's much more fun to zip, and race, and speed in and out of traffic, on sidewalks, outside of bike lanes, ignoring stop signs and red lights.

It's not bicycles per se, but bicyclists' massive law-breaking that has made Santa Monica's streets impossible to drive in. And of course, the "green" bicycle activists love it. They think people shouldn't be driving at all. Everyone should walk, or bike, or use mass transit.

Cars pay massive amounts of gas tax, and bicyclists congest them, making them practically unusable with their massive law-breaking, free of charge.
