Hi guys

I commute for 90min going to work in hollywood, 40min coming back home in OC.

Long story short, i couldnt handle the commute anymore so im trying to move out to Hollywood or DTLA that's within 20min range or so.

The issue is studio apartments are very expensive and avg rents are bt 1000 to 1300
Most of them dont have any parking lots
Some places offer all utilities included but they are usually more expensive.

I still think 10-20min commute is better than 90min commute w cheaper rents but
I was wondering anyone already living like this with annual income below 50k?

I was wondering of i could get some advice whether to living in hollywood/DTLA is okay and if someone is already doing so, could you give some real life experience advices?

Thank you!

I would love somewhere a little more chill like mid city or larchmont area around there.

Why not SFV? At least one parking spot is almost always included in valley apartments and even if not, street parking is usually easier. Burbank, Studio City, Sherman Oaks and North Hollywood are are reasonable commutes and you get more bang for your buck

Good suggestions. OP, look at sharing with another young lady who has a 2 bed/2 bath and needs a roommate, that will cut down on your cost.

Id love to, but the commute is a over 30min (which i can still handle consider ive been doing 90m commuting) and the rent is out of my budget around mid city.
Thanks tho!

Thanks for the reply guys..!

I will definately check out the northern sides..!

I was also wondering about the cost part.

Ive read some articles and most of them suggest the 30% rent to income ratio rule.
Is that rule realistic for LA? The avg rent is so high it's almost as if you have to only rent a room or get a roomate unless u are making 50k or more.

I don't think it takes 30 minutes to get to Hollywood from either location especially larchmont and there is no way mid city is more expensive than Hollywood unless your thinking of mid city west.

30% of income on rent is the general rule. The reality in LA is the average person is spending about 50% of income on rent
