Looking at buying a house on Cypress Street in Lomita (just South of PCH, East of Crenshaw) and was wondering what everyone thought of this area.

We're moving from Hawthorne because we're not happy with the crime in Hawthorne and overall quality of the neighborhood.

Generally speaking, the whole Lomita/Harbor City/Wilmington area isn't very good. The violent crime stats in Lomita might be a tad better than Hawthorne but the Lomita area and heading just a little east is not a good area. Moving from Hawthorne to Lomita isn't really an improvement to be honest.

If you're looking to stay in the South Bay, I'd look into nearby Torrance to see if you can find something. Especially if you have school-aged children, Lomita is part of LA so you'd be sending your kids to what are some poor LAUSD schools in a not so good part of town. Torrance on the other hand has better schools.

Have your realtor provide you with info on that area. Or, are you just "thinking" about buying but havent made the necessary step of hiring a realtor? That is what they get paid for.

I checked the MLS and there arent any homes for sale currently on Cypress. There is a 2bd condo one block over listed for $299,000.

Its not a bad area. Do you have school aged kids?

No school aged kids, won't be having any, and we just hired a realtor. We'll ask them the same question.

Thanks for the input.

Also, this is the property: http://livecypresspointe.com/

Lomita's not a great neighborhood (includes cypress st), and not much of an upgrade over Hawthorne in terms of both quality of neighborhood and crime. Try looking into Torrance. South and West Torrance will be the most expensive, but North Torrance will have more affordable options, and is still an upgrade over Lomita/Hawthorne.
