I'll be going to LA next year for a short term assignment (4 months) Work location is around Long Beach. Any affordable neighborhoods that I can live in (for 1 person), that let's me commute to work via public transport ? Just bringing along my suitcase. My ideal location is somewhere with food outlets or a mall nearby, public transport.

Thank You

(:

Your work location is around Long Beach?

Live in Long Beach. It's much more affordable than many central LA neighborhoods, has good public transit, walkable, and it's very vibrant and exciting. Diverse, lots of young and middle aged people, safe, and has strip malls, big malls, and like I said, public transit.

I love Long Beach, and if I worked nearby there, I would live there in a second.

Miracle Mile in L.A. is doable without a car but I don't know how practical it would be for a commute to Long Beach.

Depends where in Long Beach. Long Beach has a population of 450,000 and a ton of industry so it's a pretty huge city. Generally the areas within a few blocks of the water are pretty nice. Downtown has all the amenities you want. The area to the south and east of Redondo Ave is very safe as is everything nearby as well as south and east of the traffic circle and Lakewood Bl. Bixby Knolls also and other pockets as well. Generally stuff west of cherry ave isn't so hot.

Long Beach. Has what you seek. I think you'd get tired commuting from somewhere in Central LA. Long Beach will also be cheaper.

I don't know, but i sorta feel if you dont dress like a gangbanger or dont look like a "local", you kinda get left alone. Seems black gangs will harrass other blacks and hispanics and hispanc gang will harras other hispanic and blacks. If you are not in those group, you are prob okay...

Are you going to be staying in a hotel or AirBnb? Because getting a place for only 4 months will not be easy.
