is the carpool/diamond lane only during peak hours?

ex: from 6am-9am on 14S and 3pm-6pm on 14N?

so if i will be traveling northbound in the morning and south in the afternoons, the carpool lane is irrelevant to me?

thanks!

Yes, that is correct. I don't know what hours the lane restrictions are in effect, but I do know that the northbound side restriction starts at 3 P.M. The hours you posted look like they might be correct, or close to it. I don't drive the 14 too often, but I've done so enough in the early afternoon to know about the 3 P.M. start time. During non-peak hours, you can drive solo in those lanes, or at least so I'm told.

Why are you even on that freeway?

It only goes to the absurdly pallid Antelope Valley!

You could also take Bouquet Canyon Road , San Francisquito Canyon Road or Lake Hughes Road. It would be longer but they are great drives. Maybe a nice way to go home on a Friday afternoon.

Since you'll be heading in the opposite direction of most of the traffic, I don't think you'll even have to worry about whether or not you can use the carpool lane. You will likely encounter some traffic until you get to the 5/14 split, but after that, I think you'll be fine. There is a fair amount of traffic between the San Fernando Valley and Valencia (Industrial Center) in the morning, but every time I've seen the 14 North in the morning, the traffic has been pretty light.

Slightly different question but i just want to be sure so that i dont get a ticket.
Along with the times that were listed it also says Mon-Fri on it, that really does mean that on saturdays when i go to school i can drive in the carpool lane all day long right?
(I drive alone)

Bouquet is tons of fun in a sports car and it works for me since I am already very near it, but if you are starting in Hollywood, it would take you too long to get to the fun part. San Francisquito is 10-15 minutes more and Lake Hughes even more. I drive by those stupid signs on the 14 every day, but I could not tell you what the hours are. I am pretty sure it is southbound morning peak and northbound afternoon peak m-fr. FYI, they use mostly Ka band.

Paid attention to the signs today.
1) Carpool lane is for 2 or more passengers per vehicle.
2) Minimum fine $341 for carpool lane violation.
3) Southbound 5AM to 9AM M-FR.
4) Northbound 3PM to 7PM M-FR.
