Haha, I bought into it after college, except it was the crunchy granola northern California fantasy.

Instead of heroic environmentalists protecting nature, I found greedy NIMBYs protecting their home values.
Instead of genius techno-visionaries building a new world, I found journeymen engineers struggling to pay rent by making yet-another-social app (I guess that's the current I swam in).
Instead of beautiful cities, I found miles and miles of overpriced, shoddily built Brady Bunch houses (Ok I wasn't totally surprised by this).
Instead of warm water and sandy beaches, I swam in cold water crashing into rocky beaches. (Clearwater, FL has the best beaches I've seen in the US.)
Instead of escaping to nature every weekend, I was stuck in a parking lot escaping to nature along with everyone else on Friday afternoon.
Instead of an "East Coast city with great weather" (SF), I found a smallish city teeming with homeless that smelled like pee, where you needed a car and could never park anywhere.

Ok, I keed. California is the best state bar none and I had a ton of fun. However, there's a big dropoff from fantasy to reality.

You guys need to get out more.

Anyone can drive to the beach, rent a board and surf. ($50)
Anyone can drive to Big Bear and snowboard. ($94)
Anyone can rent a dirtbike and play in the sand. ($150)
Anyone can pay a heli to let them jump out. ($139)
Anyone can round up five friends and AirBnB a house in the hills. ($150/person/night)
Anyone can rent a Lambo on Hollywood Blvd. ($119)
Anyone can be given a ride in a private puddle jumper. ($199)
Anyone can go on a balloon ride. ($148)

Hell, I could re-create this video for <$1300, including the cost of the $199 GoPro camera & free editing software. The only head start is my hot wife.

It's the fact that they took the time to string all these events together to make it look like one long life of fantasy. Don't be fooled.

even with the balloon, the rented exotic, the planes (both of them), and the booty?

Please try. I would love to see it as a response video.

I just updated the list to include the Lambo & plane, as well as did some quick Googling to find pricing.
I would love to recreate this video. Would take me a few months because I have a real job but hey...

Jay Alvarrez is millionaire, model/social media star. I don't think most sane people expect to be living the same lifestyle as he does. He is basically in the business of making those videos

Yes, if any of you are like me, and are closet grandpas in millennials clothing, you would have caught the 60 Minutes report on "The Influencers".

Which makes OP's post even more timely.
