to see some elderly relatives.

Short - and cheap.

Any suggestions for dirt-cheap motels or hotels in the Westwood-Brentwood area? Scruffy is okay. There used to be a few along Santa Monica Boulevard, I know, that several years ago were around $50 a night at the time. Also, any old-time eateries still around, non-scruffy, nice enough to meet a relative there? Preferably quiet places, since one of the relatives is hard of hearing.

Anything in particular I should put on my agenda?

AirBnb a place to stay.
Yelp restaurants that meet your fancy.
Rent a car. Surprisingly cheap in LA @ ~$19/day.

Why not Airbnb? Plenty of places in that area and they will be much nicer than a cheap hotel.

I'll repeat, I'm looking for a hotel/motel.

And, really, not a single eatery to recommend?

Ha...I don't know what kind of work you do that gives you such a false sense of entitlement, but coming to an internet forum and asking complete strangers for advice with a snarky attitude won't end in your favor.

Oh and, let me Google that for you.

There are no cheap motels in the Brentwood/Westwood area because one of the poshest regions of the West Side generally doesn't tend to cater to the "scruffy" crowd. Honestly, do you actually need someone from C-D to do your Hotels.com searching for you? Nobody is going to recommend a magical mystery $50/night motel that you otherwise can't find yourself because those generally don't tend to fall into the "recommendable" category, especially in an area where lodging costs four times as much, on average. Assuming it exists. Maybe try Priceline/Hotwire, but even then, $50/night is going to be a stretch.

I like Swingers in Santa Monica. Old-timey look with some new-timey menu items. Fairly quiet (at least the couple times I've been).

You know, saying something like "I appreciate any help you can give me", or "thanks", goes a long way vs. a snarky entitled attitude.

Exactly. Thankfully it's a short trip.

Just goes to show how unrealistic OP's expectations are. This place is 50% higher than his budgeted amount AND kind of far away from Brentwood/Westwood.
