Los Angeles metro residents, how long in time, is your average daily commute to and from work? Combined time for the 2 trips (since one often takes much longer than the other).

Voting for my husband, as I don't work. 40 minutes in the morning and about 50 minutes at night, so about 1.5 hours. He hates it and feels like it's killing him. But he's been doing it for 17 years.

That's actually not so bad. I'd say his commute is right around average for the area but everyone's tolerances are different I suppose. For me personally, I don't mind a longer commute as long as the traffic is flowing. It's sitting and not moving that slowly kills you from the inside.

It depends on how you calculate the commute. Once you hit the westside you hit almost gridlock. Getting around the Culver City and oil field blocking point cost me an extra hour on a 5 miles commute.

50 minutes each way on Metrolink. Never been happier since I stopped driving 90 minutes each way. My commute is I.E. to Downtown LA.

it's always changing.

ten years ago, it was 15 min IN and 20 min BACK
five years ago, it was 40 min IN and 70 min BACK
now, it's weird. 4 days a week it's zero (work from home). But 1 day per week it's any of 3 field offices.
the most common is 90 mins IN and 45 min BACK (thankfully back is the opposite dir of all the other salmon)
the 5 yrs ago location is the same
the last one I only have to go into quarterly, but it's an all day fiasco. 90 min IN and 120 min BACK. And that experimenting with different departure times. At it's worst, you couldn't get there in less than 2 hours if you leave at the wrong time. I have to think of the money while I drive at 8mph and talk on bluetooth and listen to podcasts and sing along with the iPOD.
