Fullerton is a great city with many trains to LA sometimes every 15 minutes during rush hour. Easy 35 minute commute to Downtown. Trains to Irvine too. Driving to LA from OC is horrible.

Thanks for the replies. I am familiar with traffic being from the NYC area, but from what I hear it's even worse down there.

I will look into the places mentioned.

Thanks!

What time do you have to be at work? For a RN that has to be at the hospital between 630-7am it might not be a bad commute.

Unfortunately, we both work normal business hours. 8:3-9 and leaving likely by 6.

You could drive from Fullerton to Irvine in maybe about 30 minutes, or more, depending upon the traffic, which can be heavy weekdays. You would just have to adjust your schedule to fit actual drive times:

Default Irvine - Downtown LA Commutes

If your wife must commute to downtown LA, I agree that the MetroLink (Train) is convenient and much less stressful than driving. The train ride from Fullerton is about 35 or 40 minutes (you can work or sleep on the train). If you have children and schools and neighborhoods are high priority, I recommend you look at Yorba Linda (about 10 to 15 minute drive to Fullerton MetroLink station) and some areas of Placentia (northeast) located in North OC. I live in Yorba Linda and love the neighborhoods and larger lots. Irvine area has some of the top rated schools in California and a lot of things to do for everyone. Beaches are within 20 to 25 minutes. Homes are on smaller lots but there are a lot of parks. Usually higher HOA and/or Mello Roos fees.

Maybe your wife's commute will be temporary (find a good job in OC area)?

Good Luck!

Cerritos, Cypress, Fullerton.

Irvine is possible if you live closer to metrolink station and take train to LA union station.
