Oh, wait, I'm sure the L.A. city council will go for it. It's only tax payer's money.
Actually I am surprised it does not happen more. It is an iconic landmark is it not? It should be protected.

It is protected. By a fence with razor wire. I don't need my tax money paying for 24/7 security when this type of this only happens once every few years. I honestly wouldn't care if if it happened more as long as my tax $ isn't wasted on the effort.

Who really cares about that stupid sign? They can take it down and nobody would miss it after a day

You know very well this statement of yours is absurd and false. To call it "stupid" is one thing, but to suggest there's no attachment to it is ridiculous.

So you're attached to it? I believe if it was gone tomorrow people wouldn't miss it. And personally I think it's pretty tacky. A world class city can do better for a monument then a giant word on the side of a hill

Why is everyone up in arms over this?

The two "perpetrators" didn't damage the sign nor the fence...
the tarps were easily taken down...
the tarps were taken down quickly...
The only people put in "danger" were the perpetrators & paid workers...all big boys & girls...
people generally seemed to love it.

So what gives? Does LA really take itself that seriously?

I don't think anybody in real life cares that much. This isn't even a new prank. Turning the sign into hollyweed happened in the 70's.

Yeah, I'm sure Trump is going to take down Garcetti "and the lefty politicians" and turn California into a red state. Do you have any idea about how government actually works or might I suggest Moscow as a better place to take up residence?
