Hello there Angelenos. Tomorrow morning i will be waking up early and taking the Metrolink from West Covina to the Cal State LA station and then walk 3 miles north to my desired hiking location. I understand the neighborhood is alittle rough. Will i be fine walking? Or will i be better off just taking the gold line to Highland Park and hike one of those hills along the 110?

The hills are green and lush from all the rain plus they got great views with no smog lately. I'll be happy to share pictures on this thread as soon as tomorrow if i go through with this.

That isn't the greatest area. I probably wouldn't recommend walking although it's probably better during the day.

You might be better off taking the gold line to Highland Park and hiking Debs Park by the 110.

Debs is a great place to hike.
I use to hike there a lot when I was younger.
If you go in the back way off of Via Marisol, the hills are not too steep, but a long climb.
View from the top is great.

From the gold line station at ave 57, follow 57 across fig,(Chase bank) down the hill to Via Marisol, and the entrance to the park is just the other side of the parkway, on the right.
You'll see the black metal gate, and just walk to the side of it.

You will see, the climb starts here.all the way to the top.

Bob.

I just got back from Ascot Hills. I definately underestamated the area. It's easy to avoid the hoods and never felt unsafe.

I began my journey around the USC hospital campus which was HUGE. Then 2 miles north was Ascot Hills. This place will no doubt gentrify in the coming years. Still abit too gritty for my liking but i wouldn't mind buying a house just for the views.

It completely caught me off guard that you could see the Hollywood Sign from most of East LA. It's funny yet cool at the same time.
