Las Virgenes SD has great schools, but that can be a really brutal commute. 35-45 min without traffic, easily upwards of 1.5 hrs when it's bad. Is your husband able to choose his hours on the days he's in Burbank? Also, quite a long way from LAX if he's traveling a lot, although he could also use Burbank.

There are plenty of regular families in the area, and there is also serious money in those hills. That's the same for a lot of the coastal places you have been considering. Most of the people here that I've met through school who have considerable wealth have been pretty unassuming and laid back.

Going to have to agree with everyone here. I live on Burbank/Toluca border and have to sometimes drive down to MB. It usually takes 1.5+ hrs with rush hour, each direction. Worst has been about 2 hrs with an accident.

Burbank has great schools, and La Canada is some of the best in the state. Those might be great options. Calabasas will take about an hour-hour and 15 so it might be worth keeping that in mind as well. If you do decide to stick with the valley, the best high schools are going to be Granada Hills Charter (half hr ish commute to Burbank) and El Camino in Woodland Hills (which will still push an hour but will get you slightly closer to the beach for weekends).
