Preschools near Sherman Oaks? (neighborhood, cottage, friendly)

I'd like to get updated recommendations on pre-schools near Sherman Oaks in the SFV. I am having trouble comparing all of them, even with visits. I'd like opinions from people who did their own research and know kids at several different ones to help me compare and decide which are the best to signup for waitlists. Positive and critical opinions are really appreciated. Here are some we have heard:

We'd like a place preferably with 8-4/5pm schedule, start age 2 or 3, where my child will be happy, learn a lot and gain an excitement for learning. I'd also like a place where the staff is warm, friendly, and gives a lot of attention to the children (reasonable instructor to child ratio).
