We went looking for a place in mid-December and moved in mid-January. Well, the BF moved in mid-January, I moved at the end of the month. And that made our landlord nervous...he really wanted me on site ASAP.

Good luck with your search!

none of the rental websites posted listings for the apartments i went into, best way to go about it is the old fashioned drive and look for rent signs

Thank you everyone for the help. Conveniently, plane tickets look to be cheapest in the 2nd week of May, so it makes that much more sense for me to come out then...now I can only hope that there are several apartments available in the area we are targeting.

One last question that I figure I may ask: If anyone reading this thread has ever, or knows anyone who has ever lived in the area I am looking at (Studio City/Sherman Oaks, South of the 101), I'd love to hear about the specific apartments you lived in. Are there any complexes that you might recommend? Is it better overall to find an individual rental? Are there particular streets (even in that small area) to stay away from?

Thanks again,
Chris
