I can agree this is a big negative to taking public transit being around annoying people like that . People playing music , doing weird crap , crazies yelling , people hustling you for money etc

"People don't play annoying music or talk loudly on the trains, making the overall experience onboard much more peaceful than how it is in Los Angeles. I feel like this is because in Taiwan, there's more of a focus on maintaining societal order and doing what's best for society over pursuing individual endeavors. At least, that's what I've noticed during my upbringing in a Taiwanese family. "

Just an interesting fact, while its true Taiwan hardly have real scary crime issues from the beginning nor a lot of graffitti gangsters, as well as people who play annoying music or do those loud spontanous dance parties in public.

People in Taiwan were really selfish in other matter up until the late 1990s when they changed their mindset alot. If you were in Taiwan in the 1980s you will notice garbage everywhere, storm drains clogged, people box in others in while parking, horns are blared down the street, drivers squeezed their way into already girdlocked intersections, loud bullhorns blaring political statements, illegal street vendors clog every possible street and passageway they could get business. Its kind of like what is going on in Mainland China these days. Taiwan has changed alot since the 1990s when the TRAC was opened.

Though interestingly in mainland China despite some very filthy street habits people tend to keep their metro system pretty clean. They may trash the streets, eat and allow food t to drop everywhere, expectorate phlegm, and sometimes let their children urinate on streets but they keep the metro system in these major cities sparkly clean. I just don't know why, US systems even newer ones tend to get trashed so quickly, sometimes so much that fires start.

Well, if people wanted to live in NYC they'd stay there!
Or maybe it's stupid for a city to support only one mode of transportation

This is Stockholm Syndrome for being stuck bumper to bumper. Hours to and from work each day. Ever hear of the definition of insanity?

Traffic is extremely stressful. I can tolerate some loons. Half my day isn't wasted in a car.

If they did, they'd outsource the IT jobs to India based companies, outsource the manufacturing or parts to the lowest bidder probably someone in China, then what do you have left assembly to American made robots?
