Need input on the pros and cons of moving to Arroyo Grande from the Central Valley. Will be able to spend $700-$800 on our home...looking at the golf community of Cypress Ridge in Arroyo Grande. We have really been impressed with the golf course, the homes and the community.
We have been retired for about a year and really need to try something different in our lives (from our working world community.) Are people friendly and out-going... is Arroyo Grande "young retirees"(we're 58) friendly? Our adult kids live in the Central Valley (about 2 and a half hour drive from AG) and it is a very difficult decision to make regarding relocating. We keep looking at all angles... and really would welcome hearing from residents of SLO. Thanks so much in advance for your advice!

I've got my eye on this post to see what answers you get. We also are retired but older. We have looked in arizona and elsewhere but would love to stay in California. We had dismissed living in the wonderful SLO area and Arroyo Grande (which we heard was a great town)...because of the home prices. But recently we've been told there are now some good buys, but we're only looking at around $400,000. Is that impossible?

Hi,
From what I have seen, $400,000 seems like a reasonable price now in the area. It may be a fixerupper with a small lot but it looks doable. I am just concerned about the healthcare situation. It seems sparse for a fairly large area. We live in a metro area now and our healthcare is pretty good.
Central coast has it all except that. Oh, and the lack of a Cheesecake factory!!

Are you talking that price for SLO or Arroyo Grande? or both? and where are you living? What no Cheesecake Factory? Oh no! Have never been in Arroyo Grande, so was wondering what the situation was there.

I am talking about the Arroyo grande area. SLO is much more pricey. I live in the Oakland area now and we have all the amenities that may be lacking on the Central Coast.
