Does anyone know how to go about getting an appointment with the police chief?
I have a need to speak to the person in command, not some flunky desk sergeant.

Bob.

What do you want to speak to him about? Are you going to ask him to arrest our criminal mayor and the city council?

Probably not possible and unlikely he would do anything anyway.

Your best bet is a letter to the chief of police, which will get routed to the station that should be involved, or speaking to the lt or capt at the station.

If none of that gets action, contact the field office of your local council member. They actually do take citizen complaints seriously.

I tried going through the police department protocol, and got nowhere.
Trying to set up a meeting with my local councilman is no better.

I have a very simple request for the chief, and that is, stop the use of illegal fireworks in this city.
It is part of the job he has sworn to do as chief.
Enforce the laws of this city, and illegal fireworks is one of those laws.

Last year it was like a war zone , especially before and after July 4th.
In my area, it starts in mid April, happens every night, until late September.

Last year I spent nearly $2000. trying to help my Shepherd cope with this useless fireworks exploding every ten minutes, and now here it is another year, and the same thing is happening.
No enforcement by the LAPD whats so ever.

My dog is so frightened and traumatized , he will not go out to relieve himself once it gets dark.
I have considered going before the city council with this complaint, but I would need more than just myself to make any impact.
All I get from LAPD is, budget restraints that don't allow for officers to go out and catch people using fireworks.
My response to that is, the city's priorities are unfocused.
The city council can vote two million dollars of tax payer money(WHICH THEY DID) for a slush fund to finance attorney fees for illegal aliens, but can't afford to pay twelve policemen to go out into the neighborhoods and arrest people using illegal fireworks.
My honest opinion is, a recall of some political figures within our city may well be forthcoming.
Recall is a rather long, drawn out affair, but it is ONE option that is open to we citizens of Los Angeles.

Bob.

It's like a professional fireworks show on the 4th of July and the week before in Sylmar. And it really bothers my Border Collie, he runs constantly barking. Cops do nothing.

You make no mention of actually calling your local precint and reporting it as it is happening and from where.

We have a jerk on the next block who has been shooting them off(just the loud ones not the pretty ones...LOL) for about the last week. Called the divsion last night and they sent someone out.

Had a noise complaint regarding loud music last month they came out.

I don't care for Beck, but it's ridiculous to think he can control people using illegal fireworks, that's about as realistic as saying he needs to control the freeways so no one goes over 70.

Try calling the division and talk in a calm tone of voice with some manners. I have and it worked.

If it's a non emergency, they don't answer the phone, and if the automated system does answer, you are put on hold for a minimum of 20 minutes, so forget about calling.
Calling 911, and they will tell you to call the non emergency number.
I tried the cordial approach last week at hollenbeck,in person, which was an exercise in futility.
They just make excuses as to why they can't, or won't enforce the fireworks laws of this city.

Bob.

It's all over so cal Bob. Every year around this time it sounds like Beirut. My dog just hides under the bed and he's ok but I feel so bad for panicked dogs and vets with ptsd. Did u try benedryl and thunder shirts? Maybe your vet has a strong sedative because we're on our own here cops will not help at all.

This 4th of July, if you see kids using illegal fireworks and it's bothering your dog, call the police and tell them that there are Trump supporters in your neighborhood using fireworks to antagonize a group of undocumented immigrants. That should get the cops to come out in no time and make some arrests.

I have a sedative the vet sold me, but this **** has been constant since April, just like it was last year, and won't end until late September.
I don't want the dog sedated that much, or for that long.

As for the thunder shirt, that won't work on my Shepherd.
He doesn't like close physical contact.
If I try to put my arms around him, he tries to wiggle out of it.
A thunder shirt is way to confining for him
The only solution is for LAPD to go out and actively patrol, and arrest these jerks using these illegal fireworks.
I don't understand what part of "ILLEGAL" LAPD doesn't understand.

Bob.
