Is it like the Trick or Treat scene in E.T.? Or like the shows Parenthood, or The O.C.? Or like Marty McFlys neighborhoods or Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

I'd say there are quite a few movies that do a fair job of capturing a nucleic snapshot of life in Los Angeles. One that just came to mind today and that I intend to re-watch is End of Watch (2012). Another film that just came to mind because it was recently being discussed in the movie forum is Falling Down (1993) -- although hyperbolic it has a certain vibe to which a lot of native Angelenos can identify.

If we're talking movies it's Swingers and Big Lebowski. But it's dependent on how long you lived here and when you got here

I thought "Go", "the Brady Bunch movie" and "Clueless" were good back in the 1990s.

As for cop movies, "End of Watch" was good, as was "Training Day".

If you want a really good recent one, see "Nightcrawler" with Jake Gyllenhaal and Rene Russo.

Yes, Nightcrawler was excellent and had a good earthy L.A. vibe to it.
