Near perfect weather, plethora of high income career opportunities, unlimited dining and entertainment options, a vibrant multicultural city full of diversity. I love LA. Only negatives are it's crowded and expensive. For good reason.

One other objective negative is earthquake risk.

The San Andreas fault’s southernmost stretch has not ruptured since about 1680 — more than 330 years ago, scientists estimate. And a big earthquake happens on average in this area once every 150 or 200 years, so experts think the region is long overdue for a major quake.

True, but I would prefer to suffer through a major quake every 25 years or so rather than the relentless hurricanes, flooding, and tornadoes that plague most of the rest of the country every year.

1.) Near perfect weather? My friend, that is a matter of opinion. After 8 years in LA, I look forward to 4 seasons again one day. MILLIONS of people feel the same way. Keep your "perfect weather".

2.) High income career opportunities? This is another frequently sold "LA benefit". What you are failing to mention is that we give more of that "high" income to the CA government through income tax, sales tax, auto registrations, property taxes, etc, etc, etc.... Whatever you earn in LA, you can earn half as much in other areas of the country and maintain the same quality of life. That's real.

3.) Agreed. Tons of restaurants and entertainment options. Unfortunately for LA, EVERY MAJOR CITY IN AMERICA has unlimited dining and entertainment options. The Mexican food here is amazing, though I'm not sure its worth the trade off...

4.) Vibrant multicultural city full of diversity. Not necessarily a positive attribute. Diversity is a wonderful thing, IF the diverse communities come together as one and assimilate into this idea we call AMERICA. In Los Angeles, millions immigrate here to live in the neighborhood that coincides with country they came from. (Koreatown, Chinatown, Little Ethiopia, Little Armenia, etc, etc....) This is NOT a positive trait, on the contrary this is why the single defining element of LA culture is that it HAS NO defining culture.

5.) Agreed. It is crowded and expensive. Not sure that giving a half million illegal immigrants a driver's license was a smart thing to do for traffic congestion... OR the AIR that they are supposedly SO CONCERNED about here.

Earthquakes... Yea, sounds like you haven't lived in LA during a REAL earthquake. (Northridge was NOT a significant earthquake by historical standards. Gonna ask you to get back to us on how "not a big deal" they are after a nice 7.6...

Moxieman, it sounds like you need a hug....or a moving van.

Oh, and it took them a year to rebuild my house after the non-significant Northridge quake. I'm originally from Ohio, you can have your snow.

1. The Bay Area arguably has nicer weather. Never gets extreme heat like we do in July-Sept.

2. The "high income career opportunities" are only available for a few, and for those lucky enough, they have a huge chunk going to taxes... and housing.

3. Yeah our dining/entertainment options are more than most cities, but every major US city has options now. We just have more of them. Big deal. Also, ours tend to be overpriced and overhyped.

4. The city may have a diverse population but it is incredibly segregated. We are in no melting pot.

^ probably the one in SF in 1989 I think.

I didn't like LA at all. I lived in DTLA for a few months for work last year and and two 1/2 months this year. Nurses make more in Fresno. It was rather abnormally rainy when I was there for fall and winter so I am not going to hold that against LA. Very hot if you are not along the coast.

The food well here is where I am a snob. It was alright if you like a Mexican twist to EVERYTHING. Taco! taco! taco!
I lived along the east coast so there is actually that culture background cooking the food and there is a world of difference. The Jamaican food I had was awful. Some popular place in Santa Monica.
Earthquake you have ZERO warning. Even if you did do you have a helicopter to escape? I am ok with hurricanes weeks warning.

I've been here since 60's in santa monica.

It was great then and now overgrown, overcrowded, overpriced.

I stay home a lot now as I love my apt north of wilshire. Don't miss a
thing in the crowds and costly restaurants.

And don't forget no humidity and no bugs.

Nothing like a little dose of reality.
