I woke up this morning to see a scorpion wandering across my kitchen floor. A really freaky sight. I killed it with bug spray.

I did some googling, and learned that scorpions are common in the Santa Monica mountains and Malibu. Sometimes they even wander down to the city of Santa Monica (where I live, on Ocean Avenue).

I also learned that the California scorpion's sting is painful, but rarely fatal unless one is allergic to their venom. The more deadly scorpions are found in the Mideast and Africa.

Even so, it was surreal seeing a scorpion wandering across my kitchen floor.

I didn't know it was an unexpected thing. I'm in Marina Del Rey, and we came across one our 1st or 2nd week here. Just sorta figured that was a thing to watch out for.

Yes there are plenty of scorpions, rattle snakes, coyotes, bears, mountain lions and bobcats all around LA amongst lots of other wild life. I even saw two bald eagles the last time we were in Catalina. One of the things that makes LA great. The small scorpions around here arent going to do much more then a bee sting and you can easily relocate one out if the house with killing it

I also see deer, opossums, golden eagles, red-tailed and yellow-tailed hawks, bats, skunks, barn owls, and lizards around!

During my nocturnal walks (3 to 5 a.m.) I've seen plenty of coyotes in Santa Monica. Once I saw a pack of four. I don't fear them. They generally keep their distance.

I've also seen raccoons, a possum, and a skunk. Raccoons live in sewers. I've seen them emerge from, or return to, the sewers.

But this is my first scorpion.
