Pretty clean, no noticeable gang activity, manicured lawns, apartments that actually do income and credit checks, school district has a good reputation, a fair amount of eateries but yet many quiet residential streets, and home owner/renting prices that may not be cheap...but are not the highest in the county to the point that it seems insane.

Plus I think the location is cool if you have things you want to do in the Valley, or over the hill in the Hollywood/ DOwntown area. The studios along with some of the office buildings they have near the freeways make it look like a modern area to me. My friend from the east was here in November and as soon as we got off the freeway to ride through the streets, his first reaction "wow, this area looks nice, where are we?"

I don't know where you saw these " Mexican immigrants who look unhappy to be there" at. That place is generally not populated by that type
That part really throws me off. Burbank is about 75% white based on last census I saw. The only Mexican immigrants I see in Burbank are in the Home Depot parking lot.

That certainly accounts for the driving issues but it's nowhere near what is going on in Glendale. Burbank has it's own police department and their is no crime so they spend most of their time pulling people over so it's not really a great city to be driving like a jerk in

Weird. I enjoy Burbank...to me it's a nice little family-friendly escape from the the basin.

I have been to Burbank a total of probably 12 times, by my count, since 2009. In fact, the first visit I ever made to California was to L.A., and I stayed in Burbank. I've stopped plenty of times in Burbank when driving back into L.A. from NorCal, for the sake of convenience. I've eaten at In-N-Out and Starbucks, and shopped at Target, Trader Joe's, and IKEA, all of which are in the central part of Burbank.

Each time I've made a stop in town, I just can't seem to get over how poor the customer service generally is from merchants and cashiers, how aggressive and surly customers seem to behave (regardless of race), and how terribly aggressive the driving is in and around downtown. I even know people who have worked for, or have collaborated on projects with, Burbank City Hall and have come away saying some pretty negative things about that city's government.

Burbank, to me, seems like an odd blend of machismo-oozing Armenians, ESL-for-certain Mexican immigrants who look unhappy to be there, and Northeastern and Midwestern transplant types who work in the entertainment industry and have that douchey hipster thing going on. It just isn't a vibe that I "get."

The next time I drive back into L.A. from the north on the 99/5 Freeway, I think I'll just make my stops in Newhall, or even just Bakersfield. Bakersfield isn't the most pleasant-looking town in the world, but at least its people are down-to-Earth and seem reasonably friendly.

So, what gives, Burbank?
That's all you had to say... lol

Burbank actually is also home to a large, close-knit community of native-born locals who are descended of the people who came to work in the aerospace industry at the turn of the century, many of whom were originally from the Upper Midwest and Northeast.

They worked for Lockheed Martin, Boeing, McDonald-Douglas, Northrop, etc. That's why you'll be in one of the neighborhoods in the middle of town and see the random, tall, Nordic-looking person here and there. Most of Burbank's core native-born population that still resides there are actually from this Nordic stock and, if you ask, will usually tell you of a grandparent of great-grandparent from Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin or Illinois that came to California between the 1930s and 1950s. Ask about their ethnic heritage and you'll get replies like, "Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch", etc.

I always wondered if this was why they put Southern California's first IKEA store there?

Burbank is one of the best places to live in L.A. County and it is one of the most functional and safe cities in L.A. County. There are good reasons why it is praised so highly in the L.A. subforum and recommended so highly in the L.A. subforum. The only real weakness I can think of that Burbank has is weather (although South Burbank has the best weather in the San Fernando Valley along with Toluca Lake next door, due to the proximity of Griffith Park). In some parts of Burbank public transportation is weak however Burbank does have the Metrolink.

Probably from Sun Valley and North Hollywood next door.

I highly doubt it. Retailers are driven by demographics and population density in the surrounding area.

You have to give it to the "socialist" Swedes: the attention to details, price, quality, and design are part of the company's long-term success.

The "new" Burbank store (opened in early 2017) and is apparently the largest store in the U.S.

Who says no Latinos live in Burbank ? The 2010 Census put the number at about 25 percent.

Anyway, I didn't know C-D members are taking scientific polls on where these immigrants are from.....or where they live...
