South Pas was incorporated in 1888 and shared its high school with San Marino until 1955 when they split off.
I wonder if the areas of Pas destroyed to build the 210 also had people who were considered ethnically expendable by the city fathers?

Of course, but it was more than just that

1) Poor people certainly weren't going to be suing the state (unlike the 710 in South Pas) to stop construction
2) It was probably considered slum clearance
3)It created a physical barrier to keep black in their place

Keep in mind that legally black people could not own homes east of Lake Avenue in Pasadena due to the housing covenants.

I thought so.
Similar to the building of the 10.

But yes, before busing, PUSD was considered an excellent district. It says something about the strength of community feeling and identity in Pasadena that Pasadena itself was not torn apart by what was happening in its schools like Inglewood was at the same time (as both were the first districts in CA to have forced busing)
Ah yes, but what happened was a form of soft bigotry - maybe not Boston but the effects long term were the same - schools were still segregated in one way or another.

I dunno man, I would say that the city was fairly torn apart by what happened... In the 90's there was serious gang related stuff going down.

I assume in Inglewood you're referring to massive white flight out of the area?

Not really surprising. Major freeways/expressways are often built where the locals don't have the clout to block it - and they become major socioeconomic/racial demarcation lines, like railroad tracks were.

Classic example was Robert Moses building the Cross Bronx Expressway in NYC which wiped out a neighborhood while not affluent, was healthy. It sliced up a largely residential neighborhood that went into decline afterwards.

Eagle Rock is Cole Trickle's hometown.
