I am getting transferred, I thought to San Diego, however, LA is now in the picture. I want to live near the beach, but are there mountains in LA? I love the outdoors, hiking and running and wouldn't mind being in an area that offers that instead of the beach. I would like to not spend more than 1300 approximately for rent if possible. Can anyone suggest areas to look at? Also any information on hiking areas or mountains in the area would be great as well. thanks

LA has both mountains and beach. There are people that go surfing and snowboarding in the same day. Just look at some pictures.

Someone else that lives there could give you an idea of where to live though.

If you come to L.A. you'll love Griffith Park. You can live near it in Los Feliz or East Hollywood for your price range. You might like Runyon Canyon, too.
