This is really messed up . The city has created a monopoly for these trash companies .

It's bs that's it's better for the environment .

It's amazing how corrupt this city is .

This affects apartment renters too not just businesses and condo owners.

--

"While the carting companies collect trash, the City of L.A. collects cash. That cash comes to an estimated $35 million a year in franchise fees, an endless new stream of revenue to be swallowed up in the fiscal sinkhole known as Los Angeles."

The results of all this were not only predictable, they were predicted. Rates have skyrocketed, and service has taken a dive. A dumpster dive.

Not counted in the projected $35 billion take over the decade-long life of this deal is the rich new source of campaign cash sure to come in its wake. Small carting companies hired by individual businesses and apartment owners have no need to line the pockets of City Council and mayoral candidates. But giant carting companies with pockets deep enough to bid and win on the new exclusive franchises have everything to gain by keeping the City Council and mayor in their pockets. While direct campaign contributions are limited by law, there are plenty of work-arounds like PAC contributions and support of pet project ballot measures. Let the countdown begin to the first ethics law violations.

There's so much corruption in this city -- why do we put up with this? I would not shed one tear drop if Garcetti and the entire city council got terminal cancer.

Angelenos are "good" with Garcetti running for President right ? How corrupt could he be .
But only 20 percent of eligible Angelenos vote . Wonder if they polled only legal immigrants ..
