Are those Tico's Tacos commercials intended to appeal to people "tripping" on drugs and who will shortly have the "munchies" as they say? The latest one seems even more bizarre than all the previous ones.

They know their market and their customer base.

(Imagining now commercials for Campos' Burritos and Oki Dog....)

Back in the day, you never went out very late at night at then hit up your favorite joint for a taco or burrito? At 3:40 AM, yeah, plenty of folks eating at taco joints look like they are"trippin". Now to be fair I don't know if Tico's is a late night joint and it probably is NOT.

Taco Bell 🔔 definitely seems to try to appeal to the stoner demographic . I know some people love it but always seems to mess up my stomach. It's definitely cheap so I can see the appeal for some.

As for Titos it appears to only be open until 11pm even on weekends .. so not really late night .

It's not.
But generations of West Side high school kids (and kids from the Westside's colleges and universities) have taken bong hits after school and then headed to Tito's. Ever since the '60s.

They definitely know their customers well.

I can't handle Taco Bell now, but as a kid I liked it. The food, however, definitely is not the same as it was back then, although it was no more Mexican then than it is now.

Tito's is definitely an acquired taste. You have to grow up with it to really enjoy it. It's one of the last gringo-Mex independent fast food places in that part of town. (The Valley equivalent of Tito's was Henry's, and I'm pretty sure that's gone.)

Yeah I used to go to Titos growing up pretty often and mostly getting the enchiladas. I haven't gone in many years .

As for Henry's it looks like it's still, I've never gone there but been by there several times .
Not sure if this is the original location , it's on Tujunga in Studio City .

There is another taco place called Cactus Taqueria that is right near there too which is pretty good.
They have a couple of other locations

Growing up for me it was Del Taco or a real taco shop, NEVER Taco Bell.

Del Taco is still going strong in OC...my young friends somehow still eat it

Del Taco is still strong in L.A. as well.

At least O.C. still has Naugles - unlike L.A., and unlike the I.E. where it started (as did Taco Bell, Del Taco, and the chain that spawned Del Taco, Taco Bell, and Naugles - Baker's ; also McDonalds)

The only Naugles left I think is in Fountain Valley.

No one mentioned the disgusting "Green Burrito".
