So i found a great deal on a apartment in maywood. Can anyone familiar with the area tell me what its like living over there? I work in beverly hills but i dont want to pay that super high beverly hills rent. This place i found in maywood is dirt cheap only $550 per month for a bachelor. I didn't even think that was possible in socal anymore! So is maywood a gang infested hell hole or what? And if so do you guys know of a cheap 1 bedroom or bachelor or studio within $700-1275 per month somewhat close to beverly hills?

Well for that price it probably has a shared bathroom and no parking....and street parking there will be a nightmare.

With that said, there are bachelor apartments with shared bathrooms available for under 1K closer to Beverly Hills. Think Westlake and other undersireable pockets on the west side.

With that price it's either a scan or a shared unit or illegal boarding house

I would not recommend Maywood. Not a very good area. Plus, it's right by a lot of industrial areas like Vernon with not much going in the surrounding areas. And it's never a good indicator when you have a casino nearby to prey on the poor. Not exactly the greatest place in terms of livability to put in mildly.

With your budget, I'd recommend trying to find something in the Valley. I'd consider North Hollywood or Valley Village. You may not find a lot for under $1,250/month, but there's a decent chance you can find an older, no frills unit. Plus, in terms of activities/nightlife, you've got more happening in those areas. And a little better in terms of safety overall.

Westlake and Pico-Union are not on the west side. Westlake is between downtown and Koreatown and Pico-Union borders it.

The only stupid person here is you. You have no flipping clue what you're talking about. Have you ever been to Los Angeles? Everything west of downtown is NOT called the west side. Downtown is not the center of the city. The name calling is showing your IQ.

I know you want to believe it's great, but stop and think for a minute.....why in the world in LA would rent be that low?

Maywood is not the best to put it bluntly. There's worst off places off course but there will some quality of life issues.
A rule of thumb I've come to follow is, if the building or complex doesn't have a minimum credit score or income requirement, then it's probably not some place you wanna be unless you are low on options
