Would you be content to pave the entire planet? How much concrete/steel/brick/mortar is enough?

Over exaggerae much?

Besides that. Condensing the city can ease the sprawl. Allowing more green space. People would've lived closer to their jobs/stores/friends.

Then what should be the limit on L.A.'s population? Why can't you just give me a number?

I'm with you on this.

How do you condense the city???

Where would all the money come from to buy the suburbs and turn them into parks? Or would you just start growing from the center, tearing down anything low rise (Oh, where would the money come from) and ..... no condensing at all just more and more people..

Just stop building outwards. Anything new being built would be in the more central parts of the city. And taller.

It's already happening. Build taller along busy corridors.

Yes and it increases traffic and congestion. Eventually space will be gone. Then what do you do? Tell more people they can't live there? If that is the case say it now, and keep it from becoming worse than it is.

Build more transit to go along with it. Make it so people can live closer to their jobs. Make it easier to get around via rail bike bus and car(via Uber, rideshare, autonomous) Encourage more walking. Make rails run blow or above ground on elevated railways(like Chicago and NY, or like the Gold Line running through Chinatown). Speed up the rails and have express rail aswell..

All this wont happen overnight but should have happened 40 years ago. And I'm not saying desuburnize all parts of the city. Mainly areas like Hollywood, KTown, etc. where the suburban lifestyle just isn't sustainable anymore. Because naturally, cities grow, and must adapt and evolve.

What Chicano3000X said, along with increased telecommuting (which will receive less and less opposition as the boomer demographic ages into retirement)
