All this wont happen overnight but should have happened 40 years ago. And I'm not saying desuburnize all parts of the city. Mainly areas like Hollywood, KTown, etc. where the suburban lifestyle just isn't sustainable anymore. Because naturally, cities grow, and must adapt and evolve.
You consider living in Hollywood and KTown to be living the suburban lifestyle ?

Also more density is happening . Not because of the politicians or policy planners but because the economics don't work to build SFH or smaller 2-4 unit properties since land is so expensive these days .

You build transit, I assume. Other cities seem to have figured that one out.

Foothill Transit (Pomona, San Gabriel Valley, Downtown LA) wants to have an all electric bus fleet by 2030 or something.

Actually the economics can't work. There is too much population growth demanding housing centrally located near the affluent business/commercial areas. The only way to house people is to build smaller (and eventually up). The Valley might become Manhattanized along with the corresponding sliver of flatland Basin on the opposite side of the Santa Monicas/Hollywood Hills.

When that runs out, the South Bay may end up with high-rise beachfront condos that rival Miami and eventually the rest of the Basin (including the O.C.) will fill in.

Traffic will become much worse with increased density. How's the public transit plan going? What's the new California emissions standard in order to mitigate smog? The smog has gone down considerably due to strict emissions standards since the Mid-20th century.

Other cities that started long ago and built transit over the time span. In CA it ain't gonna happen without a LOT of money being spent and to have that level of transportation for the millions living in CA will cost more than can ever be raised in taxes, etc.

SoCal is NOT Long Island or a downtown are, it is a huge area with about 24 million people. That is greater than the population of the entire State of NY.
