If you put all the skylines together, yes it would equal Chicago or bigger.
Are you including areas north and south of Chicago's Loop (including places like Hyde Park in the South and Rogers Park or Edgewater up north)? That's roughly 17 miles of straight vertical skyline along Lake Michigan. Flying from the east over the lake in to Chicago really shows this. It's an absolutely massive cityscape and there are like 50 cranes up now so it's constantly expanding (and especially to the west and south). Not trashing LA..I'll be out there in a couple weeks actually..looking forward to checking out some neighborhoods and enjoying the city.
