I was living in Pasadena at the time and the early morning “wake up call” startled me. I went outside with a flashlight and the street was eerily dark, all of the streetlights were out. I saw one of my neighbors and she was also in shock. I did not sustain much damage, just some dropped furnishings.

Hard to believe it’s been 24 years. Any memories of that day?

I wasn't there (was in the Bay Area), but do have one memory associated with that quake. I was a senior in high school at the time, and had only applied to two colleges - University of Oregon and CSU Northridge, both with the intention of majoring in music education. I had received my acceptance letters to both, and was pretty sure UofO was my pick, but my mother was trying to convince me otherwise (since tuition @ CSUN would have been much cheaper as a CA resident). Then the quake hit, and shortly thereafter I received a letter saying basically "the music building is damaged and must be rebuilt, so all music classes will be held in temporary trailers for the next few years." Made my decision a bit easier, to say the least.

I did personally experience the '89 Loma Prieta quake, however... so definitely can relate to this in general. Scary, huh?!

The thing I remember most is the sound of breaking glass. Windows blown out, pictures thrown off the wall, refrigerator toppled, dishes scattered & broken everywhere. It even sheared off the deadbolt on my front door. Took a year to rebuild.

In lieu of telling the same story for the third time, I'll link each of my previous posts here:

They are virtually exactly the same, and I had the same thing about 90% typed out again.

I lived in Westlake Village at that time. That night I fell asleep on the couch and woke up in the middle of night with the sounds of house rattling & shaking. I opened my eyes and saw my TV was dancing on top of TV stand ready to jump off. I said to myself I am not getting up to hold onto the TV. At that moment the power went out and I heard something shattered on the floor.

A few minutes later power came back on. Thanks goodness it was only a coffee mug that fell off.

I was 4 and living in Porter Ranch. I really don't remember the earthquake all that well, but I do remember sitting in the floor and the walls looking like they were made of rubber during the many aftershocks.
