Why don’t we do the same in L.A?

“Q: What else is on the priority list?

A: Homelessness is the top priority and dealing with tent encampments, mental illness and addiction. Clearing out tent encampments because they are a public health issue. There are about 100 to 150 people who are clearly mentally ill and who are cycling through the system and who need to be forced into conservatorship.

I am so sorry to break this to you but the appointment of a conservator does not mean that the homeless will be 'forced off the street'

So you are saying nothing will improve with the conservator model ?
It’ll be the same as the current situation of letting the mentally ill homeless do whatever they want ?
They’ll be forced to do nothing and just remain on the street ? Explain .

I didn't say or infer that, I think it's a very good idea. But conservators are charged with making decisions for the mentally ill who are unable to do so for themselves. The laws regarding involuntary confinement remain unchanged, so unless LA wants to build some supportive housing these people will remain on the streets unless they are having a crisis that would justify confinement for evaluation and/or treatment.

Very few people are committed to psych hospitals for long periods of time and you can't do it solely to keep them off the street. Even those who have persistent serious mental health issues patients are usually only kept in a hospital for a week or two. Part of the problem is that there are only enough psych beds for one of out of every 5922 people in California. The other issue is that you can't go back to the 60's and decide someone is crazy and should be committed to Napa State Hospital for the rest of their life, a person can only be confined as long as they remain a grave danger to themselves or others. Laws mandating that would be very difficult to change substantially.

So for the most part conservators will be directing their wards to outpatient mental health service, and short term confinement in crisis situations. Hopefully this will be augmented by some sort of stable housing for these people. I don't think they need condos, maybe an option would be a facilities similar to an old age assisted living centers where there are 2-4 beds in a room with day time activities and 24/7 access to trained staff. But the bottom line is they can get up and walk out if they want to and that right is so entrenched in the law that it would be next to impossible to change.

Here's a few good resources for you:

JM I think you and your wife should move out of LA. The people running the city obviously have chosen the homeless and criminals over the hard working citizens. If Newsome wins it'll just get worse. It's too dangerous to walk down the street and I'm not exaggerating. My friends daughter moved to a sketchy area near downtown to break into the "business". It was a scary miserable time for her. Homeless guys constantly watched her and one morning when she went to work she found her tire was slashed. She was going to be mugged or worse when she got out of her car to check it out so she drove the car with a flat to a safe area. She just moved back to OC.

Horrible crime is the only way the "homeless" can get into a facility where they obviously belong before awful things happen.., what do they have to lose? They know that they have free reign and no part of the country is off limits...no person or community is to innocent to be spared. The left are desperate to have this continue-they really want these poor souls wandering around, a harm to themselves and others- you don't need any more proof-

Wow .

Yeah Burbank isn’t the type of Place you would expect that .

From L.A Times article ... “possibly homeless “ they know he was homeless but want to be politically correct .

“Green said witnesses at the restaurant described the attacker as possibly homeless but his identity has not been confirmed.”

All these random violent attacks and killings should be a wake up call but we’ll probably just be told that we need to ramp up the giftbaskets and that “homelessness isn’t a crime “
