I work for LADOT.
If you live in Silverlake, i believe you can contact the Central District.

I'm fairly new here, so I don't know the codes for red curb yet. But before here, I worked in Glendale, and over there I actually did a work order to installed red curb in a similar situation, so it can be done. The only thing about the red curb to watch out for is, nobody can park on it. Including yourself.

It seems to be the same 1 or 2 people and I have talked with one of them who was very nice and moved her car when we had another delivery but then parked there again the next day. It dose seem to be a recent thing as she mentioned something along the lines of there being recent parking drama. We are unaware of other conflicts but don’t want to be the fallout people since we are unaware of other interpersonal goings on.

I also see it from her perspective, most people park in the same spot every day but she and another car don’t seem to have a regular spot so if one house has a visitor it all suffles around and there is currently no rule saying she (or anyone) shouldn’t park there so it seems unfair for us to say she has to park far away and walk up a steep hill. I probably just sound like a busy body who says no one is allowed to park in front of my house. Plus anyone who doesn’t live on the street would probably not realize at all.

We are going to put up a polite sign and I am also in touch with the deputy council office now

Well I thought I would just update this thread! Just a mere 9 months later an official red curb has successfully been restored! The city came out and painted it. They actually painted a longer swath than I had requested or thought was necessary... not sure what to do about that. There was extremely little communication between me and them. I used the maintenance request website to submit a request that was limited to something like 50 words and then never saw them when they did come and paint. I called the office at one point about 5 months in and they told me to wait another 6-8 weeks and then call back if no one had painted it yet. Now that it is official on the books, I think that I will maintain it going forward so as to not add to the backlog of requests they must have.

Glad you got it fixed. I didn't see this thread originally, but looking at it now and the picture, I can see why parking would cause headaches. The flip side is having a red curb will cause parking trouble for your guests or you guys if you get a 3rd car at some point. The best long term solution would be to fix the access from the garage to the house steps with a flat, sidewalk-like landing between the two, but that isn't a tiny project with your set-up. The retaining wall behind the brown fence would need to be pushed back a few feet, which would require excavation, and then the steps would also need to be moved back so they end at the new landing rather than at the street. The hills have nice views, but they come with a lot of issues.

Nice! It's a handsome house and Silver Lake is one of my favorite neighborhoods in L.A., glad you got it resolved to enjoy living in your house.
