Can any locals help me understand what LA's regions are? I'm excluding IE and OC from this.

Examples of what I mean by regions:

NYC: Brooklyn, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Staten Island, "New Jersey" (Hoboken + Jersey City),
Washington DC: NW, SW, NE, SE, Northern Virginia, Montgomery County, PG County

Here's the list for LA that I've put together so far. Need help refining:

Beach Cities: Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Venice, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey
Westside: Bel Air, Brentwood, Westwood, Culver City, Century City, Sawtelle, Palms, Mar Vista
South Bay: Manhattan Beach, Torrance, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Long Beach
South Central: Inglewood, Compton, Watts
Central LA: Ktown, Miracle Mile
Greater Downtown: Downtown, Chinatown, Echo Park,
Greater Hollywood: WeHO, BH, Hollywood, E. Hollywood, Los Feliz, Silverlake, Atwater
The Valley: Pasadena to Calabasas
The westside includes Santa Monica, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Venice, MDR and Playa. No one really calls it "the beach cities".

Add Palos Verdes to the South Bay. Long Beach isn't part of the South Bay.

Why? The IE and OC are included in the LA region, no matter what "urbanized" standards you apply. The "urbanized" LA area arguably stretches from Santa Monica, up to Santa Clarita, down to Laguna Niguel (again, just casting a wide net), and all the way over to Redlands.

The Inland Empire is made up of San Bernardino County and Riverside County, neither of which is part of Los Angeles County. There are seven counties in southern California, the remaining being Orange County, Ventura County, San Diego County and Santa Barbara County.

I'm fully aware San Bernardino and Riverside Counties are the Inland Empire and not Los Angeles County.

I think the idea of LA regions is somewhat subjective. City of LA, LA County, greater LA? I accept parts of OC, I and Ventura because people live there and work in LA. LA is the economic hub and population spreads out. That's why OPs project is flawed

Then why say, "The IE and OC are included in the LA region, no matter what "urbanized" standards you apply"?

This!! I never understood why the IE is it's own metro, the development is continuous. There's other metros where there's nothing between the principal counties, and rural one's, but they are included in the metro. Same thing with east Ventura couny continuous development.

I don't think that a county is defined by its development. Not sure what the Census bureau uses to determine this.

I also find that odd,and yet The NYC Metropolitan Area includes parts of Pennsylvania,Connecticut and New Jersey, but the IE is right there in L.A's backyard and Ventura County is also nearby and yet it is not considered part of The L.A Metropolitan Area

Backyard? It's nearly 60 miles from downtown L.A. to San Bernardino....the IE is not really "right there" nor is Ventura County. If these distances were in the East, you would have driven through a couple of states given that number of miles.
