We are currently considering relocating from Memphis, Tn to SoCal, particularly the Long Beach or Signal Hill area... My wife is a nurse and would be making about 100k/yr and I could bring in around 75K/yr, we also have two elementary age children. We’ve been looking at homes in the 1.1 million range (20% dwn payment covered). We’re trying to figure out if a family of four can live comfortably on our salary considering other expenses beyond the mortgage...

I'm not sure what kind of monthly nut an 800k mortgage is, but that aside, a buck 75 you should be able to make it on that, it's just a matter of what you consider comfortable or not. There are a lot of nice decent homes in the eastern part of LB that are in that price range. Signal hill is not bad, but it wouldn't be my first choice and I live in the LB area.
