We will be moving from VA to Long Beach CA at the end of summer, beginning of Fall, Is there any way to efficiently find a place to rent? We will be visiting in July. Trying to figure out where the "good" neighborhoods are and something that is affordable has become stressful. Any advice or suggestions?

Good neighborhoods in Long Beach.....stay south/east of the traffic circle and Lakewood Bl. Bixby Knolls and Signal Hill are ok too. Lakewood is ok as well. Actually some of the nearby towns to the east of Long Beach are nice as well ...Los Alamitos, Seal Beach, Cerritos, Cypress.

Good luck with affordable. Cheapest decent 2 bd/2ba apartments will be dated and cost a minimum of around $1600/mo but probably more.

If you need schools, it becomes more complicated just due to the layout of Long Beach and Lakewood.

I've lived in Long Beach for years. If you're moving to town, I would investigate the following neighborhoods, each of which is safe, clean, beautiful and has their own unique flavor:

-Bluff Park
-Belmont Heights
-Belmont Shore
-Belmont Park
-Naples Island
-The Peninsula
-Alamitos Heights
-Park Estates
-Stoneybrook
-Del Lago
-Bay Harbor
-Bixby Village
-Bixby Hill
-University Park Estates
-College Park Estates
-Palo Verde
-El Dorado Park North
-El Dorado Park South
-El Dorado Park Estates
-Rancho Estates
-Los Altos North
-Los Altos South
-Plaza East
-Plaza West
-Lakewood Village
-Bixby Knolls

Signal Hill area seems like a good compromise on price. Bixby, Belmont, and even Cypress, Los Alamitos and GG are getting really high.

I'd look in Signal Hill if you don't have kids, Garden Grove if you do.
