I'm an L.A. native; blame my parents who both grew up in New York and got tired of the harsh winters. I'm here mostly because of my job at this point; I'm paid pretty well for what I do, and I couldn't find another job like this anywhere. Also, my family is here (two grown children and one grandchild). Being able to pop over to blow raspberries on my grandson's stomach (he'll be 4 months old on May 14th) is worth all of the other hassles of living here. I'm not retiring for at least another 10+ years, so I intend to be here for a while.

The weather here in the SF Valley has gotten too hot for me to find much enjoyment in it, but at least our freeways don't turn into skating rinks in the winter!

I couldn't care less about the entertainment industry, by the way. This is a vast city of millions. Many of us are just living normal lives; we simply choose to do that here rather than somewhere else.

The weather is too hot, and the women aren't hot enough. But I guess if you you're into blazing heat, and the full-figured Latina type, this place is heaven on earth.

We had a pod of dolphins joining us for Wednesday night's boat race. Sure, that won't appeal to everybody, but I felt good about it.

Lived in IL, TX and GA, always wanted to come to CA, a job transfer made it possible and we ain't looking back.

Sure all those negatives exist. But point to a place without negatives and I'll point to a liar.

And regarding "Mexican" neighbors, had tons of obnoxious white neighbors and one black one. The one Latino family we lived near were terrific, civilized and cultured folks. My current boss is Latino and someone I admire a lot.

White people can be just as jerky as anyone else. Sometimes, it seems like even more so.

Certainly. The Latino neighbors down the hill are thoroughly pleasant people. The very white, very conservative residents in the neighboring property, though? Never encountered a less pleasant woman in my life. Vindictive, grudge-bearing, entitled. Thank God she and her long-suffering husband are off to Palm Springs. The house was taken over by 8 young Asian men who were professional computer gamers (I swear, this is the gospel truth) and they couldn't have been nicer.

Too hot? That's hilarious. Maybe in Palm Springs or something. But the LA area? Especially when you factor in humidity, I'm pretty sure summers in the northeast and midwest are hotter. With frigid winters.....
