Stupid mayor and city council is set to approve rent control. If rental property owners cant make any money or even lose money their going to get out of the business. The laws are already skewed in favor of the renter, Democrats hate business and see them as out to screw everybody.

Tenants rights groups have apparently gathered over 500,000 signatures.
This would basically make every property under rent control it sounds like, while today it's limited to multifamily buildings built prior to 1978 (October I believe)..
This won't be a good thing.
His reason to support this is ridiculous. This is bs as it's public record when a building was built. Renting in a rent control building is not "like winning the lotto". There are plenty of buildings in L.A built before 1978.
He's basically saying renters are too stupid to know if a building is built 1978 or prior. It takes literally a few minutes . Or they can ask the property manager if it's covered under rent control.
Also no doubt, it'll make it less attractive to build new buildings in L.A as they'll all be covered under rent control.
Beverly Kenworthy of the California Apartment Assn. said that
imposing limits on rents in newly built apartments would make it much harder for residential projects to pencil out financially, undermining Garcetti's goal of approving 100,000 new units by 2021.
"The mayor would essentially be sabotaging his own housing goals," said Kenworthy, vice president of the association's Los Angeles office. Even his remarks, she said, could have a chilling effect among developers eyeing the city.
It sounds like it would apply to single family homes too. Which would likely mean people would be more likely to sell their homes versus rent them out. Who wants a rent control tenant in their home forever that they can't get rid of ?
""It's like winning the lottery," Garcetti said. "If you happen to find a place, and it was built from 1978 or before, you can expect — even though you might have high rents today — that [the rent] won't go up by double digits.
If you're not lucky to win that lottery and it's something built in 1979, you do face zero protections. "
Garcetti says he would consider expanding rent control in L.A.

Don't worry, the government will step in and build "government made apartments".
Though I'm sure those have another "name", and I'm sure will be crime free and great places to live.
