Is Los Angeles the Northernmost Latin American city? (San Diego, San Jose: home, safest)

Due to the massive influx of population from South of the border, Los Angeles has been a Hispanic dominated city for quite some time now. The use of the Spanish language is probably more common than English. Does all this qualifies LA to be considered as part of Latin America?

Just under 50% Hispanic but definitely a plurality. If you have LA as a Latin American City, it would qualify as the safest and most prosperous Latin American city by a long shot.

The 2010 census numbers sound really questionable to me. There's no way Hispanics make up only 47% of the Los Angeles population, when East LA alone is nearly 100% Hispanic. But again respondents may mark whatever ethnicity they want, and LA is a sanctuary city.

Eh, calling L.A a "Latin American City" seems like a bit of a stretch. Even if it passes 50% Hispanic I'm still not sure I'd classify it as such. It will likely always be a highly diverse city. It attracts people from all over, not just from Latin America.

If we are to mention Los Angeles, why not also include San Jose, San Francisco, Salinas, or Fresno, or other Central Valley cities for that matter all which are farther north than Los Angeles. Technically the Southwest was all once part of New Spain (aka Latin America) in the past. And in all these cities I mentioned it appears Spanish is used more than English.

Most major Latin American cities are pretty diverse themselves, Panama City in particular.

What about Montreal? Could it be considered Latin America because the majority of the population are French speaking and French is a Latin language?

While we're at it. Quebec City is further north and has a higher % of French speakers.

Possibly. However, Latinos in Los Angeles identify as Latinos. I highly doubt French-speakers in Québec would be very happy with being called "Latinos".

Los Angeles is home to the largest diasporas of several ethnic groups, not just Hispanics/Latinos. LA is home to the largest Iranian community outside of Asia as well as the largest Armenian community outside of Armenia. 47% sounds about right actually. The city proper has almost 4 million people and they are basing that percentage on the city, not the metro as would be here on these forums. But, we're talking about almost 50% of 4 million, around 1.8 million or so. That's more Latinos than the population of entire cities and is more than the entire city of San Diego, that's why it seems bigger. Now, if we are talking metro, then the percentage would be higher as many suburbs are majority Latino.

Armenians are mostly concentrated in Glendale, Burbank, and Hollywood while Iranians mostly congregate around Beverly Hills, these 2 groups are nearly non-existent outside of their traditional base, and their numbers comes nowhere near that of Hispanics.
