Im a young professional I work for a small family owned company that owns 9 buildings in Westwood,CA. I am the Leasing Manager for them. I quickly learned I do not want to be a property manager for multi-fam buildings. In my view its too negative of a job so Im trying to figure out the best way to navigate professionally. I get paid okay and treated well and I love that its non-corporate. family owned businesses pay better and treat me better...but I want to advance. I've been thinking about my strengths and what Im good at and what I enjoy and I what I would like to do. I would like to ideally be a project manager on the development of luxury single family homes, dealing with zoning entitlements, budgets, schedules, deadlines. I think I'd be great at that and Id enjoy it. Im great at managing things, and i'm great at solving problems before they become problems. I have been reaching out to local developers to inquire about internships which I thought would be good, but so far no one has bitten. Who doesn't want free help?? I thought it would be good that way I could get some practical knowledge in development, does anyone have any ideas of how I should approach this?

Yeah you won’t find them in the basin if you are talking about a track of single family homes .
There seem to be quite a few companies doing redevelopment and flips right now though.
But there are developers building new homes in the valley . But it’s still pretty sparse .
Porter Ranch is one area with a lot of development going on it seems .

Almost everything being built in LA and OC is luxury apartments, which I'm sure can still provide the project management experience you are looking for.
