Hello

I'll be moving for a new job in Santa Monica. The thing is, I DO NOT want to live in SM. Are there any more modest neighborhoods near SM that I could look into? I would be commuting on either a motorcycle or the metro, so that should hopefully reduce my commute time. A friend of mine that works at the same place lives in Torrance, but he doesn't exactly enjoy the commute. What would my options be? I'd really like to have a garage (like attached to the unit) so that I can do basic maintenance on my motorcycle. I'm not sure how easy that would be to find. My budget would be a maximum of $3000 per month, ideally $2500. Which neighborhoods would you recommend? Which should I definitely avoid?

Thanks

West LA? You'll want to be within walking distance to a stop (like the Expo/Sepulveda Station Park & Ride) on the Expo line which runs all the way out to SM.

Mar Vista, Culver City or the Palms area are more modest and you could take the train to SM. Some apartments in LA have single unit garage spaces. You would just need to look for that when searching for a place.

Westchester is a quiet and small community, close to the beach, Marina Del Rey has some nice apartments, avoid places like Inglewood. El Segundo is really nice, quiet at night when everyone goes home. (high Tech area) Contact a Real Estate Agency to see whats available.

why don't you want to live in SM if you have that kind of budget?

I guessing it's not a budget issue.
